Allergan Chief Executive David Pyott has transformed a sleepy maker of eye-care products into a fast-growing company known for products that are synonymous with the American quest for beauty and youth: Botox and silicone breast implants (Botox generates $1.2 billion a year as a treatment for wrinkles). Net sales have doubled in four years. In 2005 Allergan bought Inamed, a maker of breast implants, for $3.2 billion. The real prize: Lap-Band, a medical device used in obesity-fighting surgeries that reduces the size of the stomach. This procedure has now been shown to save lives, and sales have tripled to $280 million. --Matthew Herper
